Four key elements make up a successful internet marketing campaign. Even for law firms, which is far from being the top service people search for when they search the internet. Most legal services are still done offline. But that doesn’t mean law firms should completely ignore internet marketing altogether.

A formidable internet marketing system for law firms consists of these four elements.

  • Online popularity
  • Page design
  • Content
  • Monitoring

Online popularity. Any decent internet marketer will tell you there are two ways potential clients can find you on the internet – through search engines and website directories.

Incorporating keywords and SEO mechanics into your website should boost your popularity on search engine ladders by a considerable notch. On the other hand, you need to partner with high traffic online directories for them to make room for your website on their lists. If you can get these two things down, then your online reputation is in good hands.

Page design. Content is king, but don’t take the look of your website for granted, either. One of the most overlooked factors of a successful internet marketing campaign is the look and feel of the website—in other words, the page design.

Simply put, don’t overload your website with extensive Flash graphics, Javascript elements, etc. Keep it simple, but keep it looking professional at the same time.

Content. Content is king. Period. Especially for law firms, whose specialty in their field of expertise is the sole reason why people search them online in the first place. If your law firm specializes in a certain field—for example, domestic violence—then indicate it loud and clear on your homepage. And don’t forget to highlight your location and contact number as well. Anyway, that’s the goal of business websites and internet marketing, to convince the visitor enough to pick up their phone and enlist your service.

Monitoring. When it comes to maintaining a business website, everything needs to be measured. A simple visitor counter isn’t enough. You need to be able to track how many new visitors come to your website every day, how long they stay, which page gets the most views on average, which website these visitors are coming from, etc. Trust me. Being able to track all these things goes a long way in improving your website’s performance.

The system works, but it isn’t perfect. I’m interested in hearing new ideas for law firms to succeed in internet marketing. Feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions below.

Who hasn’t heard of MLM, or multi-level marketing? The first time I heard it I thought it was one of those business ventures that was simply a pain to understand and difficult to execute effectively. But I was wrong. Once you get down the basic concept of MLM, everything else is smooth sailing. For the record, more and more women are getting into MLM business as a way to make some extra income on the side.

But do you want to know the best thing about MLM? The best thing about it is that you could conduct an MLM business online. Why not? The internet is a great place to meet new and potential clients.

Here are the advantages of running an online MLM business.

  • You won’t have to hound relatives and friends about your products or services.
  • You get more time to spend at home with your family. If you don’t feel like going out, you don’t have to go out.
  • You can reach a broader range of audience online than offline.

Internet marketing for MLM business is a great advantage. But don’t be tricked into thinking it’s a way to sleep on your business and still get away with it.

Online MLM has its advantages, sure, but you also need to consider…

  • Running the MLM business online means you’ll be giving up the opportunity to meet clients face-to-face, not getting to know them on a personal level, which in turn means you’ll be working just as hard to make up for that gap.
  • MLM is a competitive industry. I know that much is true, and the same applies to its online counterpart. So hire a consultant or business coach and choose your internet marketing plan wisely.
  • When looking for an MLM company on the internet, choose one that offers an e-commerce program to its clients and interested shareholders. This will save you a lot of work.
  • Some MLM companies provide a website. But even so, you’d want to add a front page separate from the company website. Make sure this front page is unique and distinguishes you from other MLM websites.
  • Some things never change whether you like to do things online or offline. Choose a product you are passionate about and not just for its commission rate. Love your work – as an experienced business coach, I’ve seen the highs and lows of business practices, this is probably the best advice I can give you.

I’m thrilled to hear your opinions on internet marketing for multi-level marketing businesses. Share your experiences below.

It’s no secret that lawyers make a substantial amount of money doing their jobs. But if you’re going to get into internet marketing, are you alright with spending a significant amount of your earnings on that alone? I hope not. These days you got to be thrifty.

The biggest drainer of designing a website for your law practice is in the indirect costs—that is, updating and maintenance expenses. Designing the website is a one-time expense. Maintaining it is another story.

First you need to write down: what is the purpose of my website? Settle this one first, and after that you are already halfway done into designing an effective website for your law practice.

Is it to provide service to my existing clients?

  • How will my clients learn about my website?
  • What content should I put up that visitors would find useful?

Is it to attract new clients to my services?

  • How will potential clients learn about my website?
  • How can I make them return to my website?
  • How do I help them decide to call my office for assistance?

Effective techniques
One way to distinguish your website from other websites in general is to be non-intrusive. As a lawyer, you should exhibit a sense of reserve and professionalism. If your website comes up in every other pop-up and banner, just about, on the internet, do you think prospective clients are going to find your services professional and tasteful?

Never underestimate the power of search engines. People in need of your services are going to search for legal assistance on the internet, and this is where the tools—SEO, Geo-Targeting, AdSense—embedded into your website come in.

Lawyers must be model citizens, even on the internet. Don’t push yourself into prospective clients if you don’t want to risk pushing them away.

Internet marketing for lawyers is only as effective as the content on your website. So update it regularly and provide useful information for visitors looking to sign up for your services. Hopefully they’ll bookmark your website and bump it up the search engine ladder.

A doctor is a person who is very busy at his job day in and day out. Even general physicians, doctors who diagnose your symptoms and write prescriptions, need to work like a dog if he or she wants to be able to keep up with incoming patients, let alone specialized doctors like cardiologists, neurologists, etc. But being a doctor is no different from any other trade – if you want to survive, you need to be able to market yourself… online.

Like I said, being a doctor is a very hectic profession. You simply don’t have the time to market your practice online. You’d rather use that time to sleep or spend time with family. Which is why companies that provide internet marketing services to doctors is essential nowadays.

Don’t have the time? These guys make the time.

Internet marketer companies for doctors offer a series of services you can’t expect to achieve by doing the job yourself. These guys are marketing specialists. Some of their services include…

  • Select the right keywords and frequency for SEO
  • Define the local audience for you
  • Develop your internet ads
  • Recommend the best search websites
  • Manage your budget for you

These services will put on the map, and you’ll be seeing results soon enough as you start receiving more patients into your clinic.

But of course, like a good consultant will tell you, success won’t get you far if you have no idea how to measure it. A good internet marketer service provider for doctors should also offer the following services…

  • Continuously improve and update your website to increase conversion
  • Provide detailed reports on how the project is coming along
  • Track incoming calls and emails
  • Continue to optimize your internet marketing campaign

The best way to work out your internet marketing campaign is to hire a consultant. Consultants serve as the brains behind your marketing plans.

Simply put, internet marketing doesn’t end with a simple website. Depending on your location and resources, you might need additional tools to maximize your investments, such as maintaining a blog or updating the website regularly with podcasts and other information. Once your consultant has pinned down the right internet marketing mix for you, then your website designer should be able to begin his side of the project.

If I had to choose, I’d rather count the number of people who are afraid to see the dentist than those who aren’t. It’s simpler that way. I mean, there are more adults who’d still have second thoughts about lying down on the chair even when their molar cavity is killing them.

To an average person this doesn’t mean anything. But to a business coach like myself, this aversion to dentists opens up a lot of opportunities for internet marketing. I’m sure our dentist friends would like to hear about it.

As a dentist, you should use this chance to market your services online and build a good reputation for your business. How many dentists do you know use internet marketing to bolster their careers? There’s practically no competition out there on the internet.

If you were in some other profession—for example, you’re a restaurant owner—I’m sure you’d recognize this information as worth gold right away. Quick as a wink. But most dentists don’t see it this way, though, which is exactly the point. Don’t jump on that wagon. Don’t think, “I’m a dentist. I don’t need internet marketing,” because you do.

Whether you practice in a small town or a big city, it doesn’t matter. Your internet marketing campaign as a dentist should focus on advertising your services on a local level. Interaction is key. Don’t hold back on giving away free stuffs either.

For example, you could organize a video about teeth and gum hygiene, or proper brushing techniques for kids. You could also maintain a blog that regularly publishes oral health care tips. You know, just the basics. Share information you think health buffs would find interesting.

Small steps like these make your website, and name, resonate to visitors when they finally think about going to a dentist.

It should be noted that internet marketing for dentists, or for any other career path, doesn’t end with a simple website. You need to be able to market your website, too. Talk to your designer about incorporating SEO (search engine optimization), Geographic Targeting, and other web technologies into your website design. With the right internet marketing mix, visitor traffic should pick up a steady pace in no time.

Some months ago I had a talk with my CPA friend about his newfound interest in internet marketing. He told me he’d been hearing about it for some time now and that he had invested a significant amount to put together a team who would develop his personal website. He talked with an air of accomplishment and pride.

Several weeks later I talked to my friend again and he told me his website was attracting little to no traffic. He said he wanted to regret his decision to invest on the project.

So I consulted with him about what I knew regarding internet marketing for local businesses. After several meetings, we came up with a decent plan to attract visitors to his website. Simply put, a pretty website doesn’t guarantee it would pay for itself over time. If you want online presence, you need to be able to market it like a pro. Here are some of tips that came up during our talks.

1. Free giveaways
Small businesses all want the same thing – a regular flow of customers – and sometimes you need to band together if you want even a slice of that. As a business looking to gain online presence, why don’t you consider offering giveaways to attract visitors to your website?

For instance, if you own a small restaurant, you can tempt customers with something as simple as a free desert whenever they spend a minimum amount at the local bookstore. You provide the free coupons to the bookstore. This coupon instructs the customer to visit your website to verify a secret code that would entitle them to a free desert.

You secure online traffic coming to your website, and at the same time you get a customer to try your house menu. That’s two birds with one stone.

2. The truth behind business cards
Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Business cards are a healthy source of credible information. People don’t write fake names and email addresses on business cards.

Partner with another local business again. This time ask them to put out a small bowl or box on the counter where people would drop their business cards. In exchange, you pay for the customer’s free service. What you get out of this is a list of email addresses you can advertise to again and again. Electronic mailing lists are the bloodline of any business or company’s internet marketing campaign.

3. Do something for the community
Don’t ask me why. I didn’t start it. In the US, a small town is almost always a sports fanatic town. Like I said, don’t ask me.

You could try sponsoring to develop, and maintain, the town’s local sports website. Get a couple of volunteer high school students to help you with the design. You’ll have banners and links leading back to your business website. After all, you sponsored it. You are entitled to at least a banner and several links in the pages.

It’s worth remembering that goodwill always pays off in the long run.

4. You endorse mine, I’ll endorse yours
It looks like I’m never going to run out of ideas for internet marketing where you’d have to partner with other local businesses. Anyway, here’s an idea.

You could strike up a deal with a fellow local business to endorse your services to its electronic mailing list and sending its customers a link to your website. In return, you’d do the same for them.

The thing is to partner with credible businesses. If your partner is well-known in your area, its spreading a good word about your services is bound to bring something good to your doorstep soon.

My CPA friend soon called me and said the traffic to his website was finally starting to pick up. Which of these four tips did you find useful in promoting your local business online?

Jimi Hendrix. Led Zeppelin. The Doors. Janis Joplin. The Rolling Stones. Nirvana. The Allman Brothers Band. The Beatles.

Great names in the history of rock and roll. These bands were formed through each member’s love for rock music, their relationships bonded by hundreds of hours of touring together across the country on a bus. Great, old times.

But times change. Nowadays if you want to be able to create good music and, at the same time, make a living out of it, you need more than just a strong passion for five-minute guitar solos. Brian Chappel says, “Content is NOT king – seeding and promotion tactics of said content is king.

What works for a musician these days is, of course, what works for just about anything out there – internet marketing. Here are some tips.

1. Promote in music forums
Forums and moderated boards are a great way to interact with fans, especially since most of these sites are genre-specific. Sign up, make some new friends, advertise. Forums are built for communication. As an aspiring musician, take advantage of it.

Some music forums are SoundClick, PureVolume, and Music Forte.

2. Create a podcast, subscribe to internet radio websites
Videos pick up where words left off. Why not interview yourself, or your band, and then set it up as a podcast for fans to download? There are also internet radio websites where you can create and host your own radio station.

Some internet radio websites are My Music Stream, BBC Radio One, and Live365.

3. Connect with fans through networking sites
Social networking websites connect you with friends of your friends. As a musician looking to push your internet marketing campaign in the right direction, there’s no better place to start than here.

Some social networking websites are Facebook, Buzznet, and imeem.

Dave Evans says,

The social Web is incredibly good at shining bright lights into dark corners…

You don’t need a degree in business associates and a three-hundred-dollar suit to be able to market your band on the Internet. As a musician who is also a beginner at internet marketing, start small by making friends and connecting with fans online, advertising only from time to time. Hopefully you’ll hit it big, both as a musician and as an internet marketer of your own band.

Chiropractors have enough problems as it is. Wikipedia says,

It is generally considered to be complementary and alternative medicine, a characterization that many chiropractors reject.

Chiropractic is the branch of medicine that diagnoses, treats and prevents mechanical disorders of the spine, believing these affect the person’s general health through the nervous system. Most chiropractors practice by themselves, which is all the more reason why chiropractors need to brush up on their internet marketing skills.

When hiring a company that specializes in internet marketing for chiropractors, a team of writers and web developers, you need to put several things into consideration. Here are some tips on what to look for when looking for an internet marketing team.

1.    Specialization with SEO
SEO stands for search engine optimization. Simply put, an attractive website won’t get anywhere these days. But SEO on the other hand can help drive traffic to your website by embedding common keywords into its design.

For example, if you practice in Los Angeles, with the proper use of SEO, people who type “Los Angeles chiropractor” are going to see your website on top of Google’s search hits. SEO is the magic that binds internet marketing together.

2.    Takes advantage of Geo-Targeting
Fact is not everyone in Los Angeles looking for a chiropractor isn’t going to type “Los Angeles ” in their search terms. This is where Geo-Targeting comes in.

Geo-Targeting is the process of identifying the user’s location through the use of his or her IP address. If someone types “chiropractor” and his IP address is within range of your location, in Los Angeles, your website will still show up as a hit.

Neat, huh?

3.    Fills you in with constant reports
A good web development team keeps you updated with timely and detailed reports. The report should answer these questions.

  • How many new users visited your website in the last month?
  • Where are these new users located?
  • What did they do while they were viewing your website?
  • How many users turned into leads?

These should tell you whether your internet marketing efforts as a chiropractor is doing you any favors.

Chiropractors need to be able to market themselves as much as general practitioners do. Back then, the Yellow Pages was more than enough. Nowadays, as a chiropractor, you need something more powerful – to stay ahead of the competition, you need to get in touch with internet marketing.
